Smile

In Smile, Raina Telgemeier tells the true story of what happened after she tripped and fell on her way home from girl scouts, knocking out her two front teeth. As she struggles with dentists, headgear, retainers, and the wiring and rewiring of her mouth, she also wrestles with friends, school, and the everyday foibles of growing up. We selected Smile in the hopes that it will inspire kids to find their own voice and know they’re not alone in the awkward journey toward growing up. It’s also likely that, if you’re a parent, you’ve already seen your kid read and re-read books by this great author and cartoonist, and it’s our hope that you’ll take this opportunity to read the book as well, and discover what it is about this book that makes it so special to so many children, especially your own.
